What is The Fire Safety Project Video Contest?
The Fire Safety Project Video Contest is designed to promote fire safety in Florida. Paul Davis invites students from across Florida to create a video promoting fire safety and prevention. The videos will be posted to The Fire Safety Project YouTube channel where viewers can vote for their favorite video. The student’s video that receives the most votes will receive $10,000 for their school plus $2,500 will go to the local Fire Department that serves that school.
Who is Paul Davis Restoration?
Paul Davis Restoration, Inc. is a national franchise organization and leading provider of water, fire and mold damage clean up and restoration services for residential and commercial properties.
Why is Paul Davis doing this?
Paul Davis hopes to challenge students across the state of Florida to use their creativity to produce a video focusing on the importance of fire safety. The goal of the contest is to bring attention to this important issue in advance of the National Fire Protection Association’s National Fire Prevention Week. Paul Davis will also use this initiative to thank Florida Firefighters for the work they do in protecting our communities.
How does the contest work?
• Register on the Paul Davis The Fire Safety Project website.
• Come up with a creative idea for your video and start filming; remember to keep video under 2 minutes in length
• Once you have your video, upload it to The Fire Safety Project
• After your video has been uploaded, Paul Davis will review the video for appropriateness and post the video on The Fire Safety Project Video Contest YouTube site. Click here to view the YouTube site
• Once your video is posted tell your friends, family, classmates and neighbors to go vote for your video
Who can enter?
Any student of a public or private school K-12, colleges and universities in the state of Florida is eligible. Click here for complete contest rules.
How do I enter?
Contest Entry Form– This form must be completed in order to participate in the contest.
Where can I find the release forms?
Talent-Release– This form is needed to get written permission from other people appearing in your video.
Consent of Parent or Legal Guardian Form — This form is needed for entrants to get written permission from a parent or guardian to be eligible for the contest if you are under the age of 13.
How do I upload a video?
Uploading your 2 minute fire safety video is easy. Go to the Enter + “Upload Video” page of this website and follow the instructions.
What are the video uploading guidelines?
Video file must be no greater than 200 MB and must be compressed to a minimum width of 500 pixels in either aspect ratio: 4×3 or 16×9. Almost all submission file formats/codecs are acceptable. What do I do after the video is uploaded?
After you upload your video start telling your friends, family and neighbors to go to The Fire Safety Project YouTube Channel (www.youtube.com/firesafetyproject) and vote for your video starting 12:01 A.M. ET, November 20, 2010. Remember anyone can vote for the best video, but each person can only vote once.
When are the videos due?
All Fire Safety videos need to uploaded by 11:59 P.M., November 19, 2010.
What’s in it for my school? Community?
The winning video will win $10,000 for their school and $2,500 for their local Fire Department
Who chooses the winners?
The winning video is chosen by popular vote on The Fire Safety Project YouTube channel using the following criteria:
- originality and creativity of each submission;
- consumer/commercial appeal of the submission;
- overall quality of the submission; and
- the submission’s success in capturing “The Fire Safety Project” Video Contest theme. The theme of this contest is promotion of fire safety prevention and awareness.
The winner of The Fire Safety Project Video Contest will be determined by votes cast via YouTube and will be announced in early December.

Can schools have more than one video?
Yes, different students/groups of students from the same school can participate; however each student can only enter one video.
I’m not a student; can I still participate?
No. The contest is only open to students of public and private schools K-12 and colleges and universities.
Do I have to be a resident of Florida to participate?
You must be attending a Florida public or private school K-12 or college or university to participate.
